ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A statewide campaign led by LIVE FREE Illinois urges state officials to invest in gun violence prevention programs.
Rockford faith leaders and gun violence prevention activists rallied, urging local officials to invest money from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan into community-centered gun violence prevention programs.
On Friday, they raised awareness on how these investments will make communities safer, without increasing police.
“Our hopes is that Gov. Pritkzer can hear us out when we ask for the 2 percent of the 17.5 billion dollars that’s going towards the American Rescue Fund and ask for just 3 million dollars of the 54 million that Winnebago country will receive just to implement these stratagems that have been proven in New York and Oakland to just save lives at the end of the day,” Brian Harrington Jr., LIVE FREE Rockford youth leader said.
