The Black Brown Peace Consortium (originally called the Black Brown Gun Violence Prevention Consortium) was launched in 2018 as a multi-disciplinary group of violence intervention practitioners, training and technical assistance providers, advocates, and researchers. Concerned about the lack of national attention being paid to the ongoing epidemic of urban gun violence as well as the proven strategies for reducing it, we formed a strategic partnership of Black and Brown-led institutions working to create sustainable pathways to opportunity, justice, and peace in our cities. Our goal is to ensure that there are high-quality community violence intervention efforts being implemented in cities throughout the country and to transform the public narrative regarding approaches to gun violence, criminal justice, and public health.
In 2021, the Black Brown Peace Consortium launched the Fund Peace campaign to advocate for local, state, and federal funding for proven community violence intervention efforts around the country. Over 100 organizations across the country have signed on to this effort and, collectively, we are building an unprecedented national movement for peace.
We work to achieve peace in our cities by marshaling our collective expertise and leveraging our collective voices for systemic change. The Black Brown Peace Consortium serves to coordinate and deepen efforts in communities impacted by cycles of violence in order to help build a fully-resourced national infrastructure for peace. With the understanding that no single organization or disciplinary approach will achieve our goal, members of the Consortium work in partnership with one another in the following areas:
Local, State, & National Advocacy
Training & Technical Assistance
Program Design & Implementation
Capacity Building & Professional Development
Research & Policy Development
Community Mobilization
